About the Publication

Trill Mag is a non profit online magazine that allocates to the Gen Z demographic. The magazine consists of articles and artwork surrounding news, entertainment, culture, and other categories of content. As a graphic design intern the task at hand is designing artwork to accompany the articles. The article entitled: Are These Women Industry Plants? A Look Into The 2025 Grammy Awards by Jenna Millar is about music artists Chappel Roan and Sabrina Carpenter facing industry backlash for their Grammy nominations.

To depict the artwork for the article the main focus was highlighting the alleged accusation of the two artists rising to fame by a handout instead of working hard for their success. The featured image is a more symbolic approach with money dominating the artwork. Front and center are Sabrina Carpenter brushed in pink hues to harken her childish, bubble gum persona and Chappell Roan in red hues to callback the colors of the lesbian pride flag and her queer following. A trim of foliage in bright, warm colors compliment the green background. Easter eggs of Sabrina Carpenter gaining popularity from being the niece of voice actress Nancy Cartwright hinted by the Bart Simpson arm tattoo.  Roan is leaning against the background with her dramatic shadow stretching over the dollar signs to show she is confident in her position as a pop artist no matter what gets thrown at her. Inspiration was taken from pop culture propaganda campaigns. A series of rough drafts of the artwork is featured below bringing more color contrast bewteen the artists and a basic monochromatic approach where all aspects of the work are in shades of green.
