Alternate Dimensions for Article Content

Project Overview

Trill Mag is an independent, non-profit digital media publication engineered for the Gen-Z demographic, focusing on global news, entertainment, and modern culture. Serving as a dedicated Graphic Design Intern, the objective was to collaborate directly with the editorial department to conceptualize, design, and deploy bespoke digital illustrations and feature graphics to accompany high-traffic editorial articles. This specific deployment focuses on the visual asset generation for the lifestyle feature, “Why Is Dating In College So Difficult?,” written by Grace Pollard, exploring the sociological friction and scheduling constraints surrounding modern student relationships.

Design Strategy & Cultural Homage

The core creative challenge lay in visualizing the modern academic-to-personal life barrier while engineering a balanced, narrative-driven composition that naturally reflects demographic diversity.
  • Narrative Composition & Visual Anchors: The featured illustration utilizes a classic scene set within a traditional diner environment to establish a tangible narrative backdrop. The spatial layout coordinates a couple splitting their focus between personal laptops and academic textbooks, leaving an untouched meal in the foreground as a deliberate symbolic metric for institutional and professional pressure over personal connections. The characters are rendered with a complementary, high-contrast color palette that subtly celebrates inclusivity and interracial representation within the target audience demographic.
  • Fine Art Inspiration & Layout Scaling: Visual inspiration was heavily derived from the American regionalist style and storytelling compositions of Norman Rockwell paintings. To ensure seamless multi-channel distribution across varying media constraints, the artwork was reconfigured across alternate structural dimensions, ensuring strict data boundaries and pixel-perfect scalability across full-bleed desktop banners and mobile feeds.

Technical Execution

All publication layouts, graphic assets, and uncropped master illustrations were developed using an advanced digital painting and publishing pipeline inside the Adobe Creative Suite. The production workflow prioritized rigorous photo-manipulation, path consistency, and web-optimized color spaces to deliver high-fidelity editorial media configurations.
