Project Overview
Trill Mag is an independent, non-profit digital media publication engineered for the Gen-Z demographic, focusing on global news, entertainment, and modern culture. Serving as a dedicated Graphic Design Intern, the objective was to collaborate directly with the editorial department to conceptualize, design, and deploy bespoke digital illustrations and feature graphics to accompany high-traffic editorial articles. This specific deployment focuses on the visual asset generation for the cultural critique feature, “Saint Or Satanic: Religious Symbolism Resurfacing In Fashion,” written by Remi Brandli, which analyzes the resurgence of ecclesiastical iconography within contemporary pop-culture and celebrity branding campaigns.
Design Strategy & Visual Curation
The core creative challenge lay in balancing controversial celebrity cultural expressions with traditional iconographic themes, creating a structured editorial layout that reflects modern media discourse.
- Collage Architecture & Iconography: The primary featured graphic utilizes a layered collage framework depicting prominent music artists—including Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, and Cardi B—who actively integrate traditional religious imagery into their media rollouts. The layout incorporates highly recognizable motifs such as crucifixes and halos to highlight the intersection of divinity, performance art, and progressive hairstyling choices. The background features a striking plum-to-teal ombre gradient accented by a geometric array of cross patterns to unify the multi-figure composition.
- Cultural Rebuttal & Narrative Context: To provide deeper thematic substance to the project page, a secondary concept rebuttal illustration was developed. This asset addresses the media’s frequent secularization, imitation, and satirical framing of ecclesiastical garments, specifically referencing the traditional vestments of Catholic religious orders. The visual contrast highlights the tension between consumer fashion campaigns and traditional institutional sanctity.
Technical Execution
All composition layouts, color-space transitions, and editorial mockups were engineered within a specialized design pipeline inside the Adobe Creative Suite. The production workflow prioritized clean composite filtering, precise vector alignment, and web-optimized exporting to guarantee seamless, high-resolution rendering across modern web platforms.
